In 1972, Ben and Sally Combs opened Hobby Hut in Florence, CO. At that time they ran the Florence Hotel. They used the basement of the hotel to begin their new adventure. In 1978, Hobby Hut got moved to its present location on 9th Street in Canon City. At that time the front building got added. In 1991, two fifty foot long rooms were added to the back. One was the greenware room and the other is used for mold storage and for pouring the greenware. For 27 years they built up the business to what we believe is the largest greenware ceramic store in Colorado. In 1999, Ben and Sally retired and sold the store to Terri Bray. With the help of Bob Hudson, a very experienced caster, Hobby Hut has maintained the store's excellent quality of greenware, bisque, paint and supplies for Southern Colorado.
